DSP stands for Direct Support Professional. These are the dedicated and invaluable people who support those with disabilities.
DSPs work tirelessly to provide physical, emotional, and professional support.
This support allows people to live in their own homes, hold competitive jobs, maintain social and religious affiliations and accomplish the daily tasks and relationships that most of us take for granted.
If you have a DSP supporting you or a loved one, please take the time to thank them for all that they do.
If you are a DSP, please know that you are appreciated and vital to not only the health and well-being of the people you support, but also to keep our community inclusive and open to all.
This is a job that can be physically rigorous and emotionally draining.
Your stamina and efforts are not taken for granted.
Due to the current staffing shortage, we are reminded even more than usual about how much we need caring and committed DSPs.
Direct support professionals are the often unrecognized and unsung heroes in the field of disability work.
