Holiday Giving

Empower Cherokee is participating in two initiatives to help out in our community during the upcoming holiday season. Empower Cherokee is inviting all community members to assist with these initiatives. Items can be dropped off at either of our two campuses. Help the people we support to share in the gift of giving.

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child sends a shoebox-sized gift to children all over the world. In many places, this box may be the only holiday gift the child receives. It is suggested that items not be too flashy or expensive as they could cause the child to be a target for theft. The box should be filled with modest items that can help with hygiene, education, and entertainment.

Items Requested

  • Cash donations (each box costs $7.00 to ship)

  • Small Items (that fit in a shoebox) for a child such as a small stuffed animal or toy

  • School Supplies

  • Gloves and Scarves

  • Socks

  • A personal letter with a return address

Please do not include:

  • Used items

  • Liquids, toothpaste, shampoo, etc. (bar soap ok)

  • food items

Liquids and food items can be donated to our other initiative below

If you are interested in knowing more about this project please contact Michelle Robinson at Michelle.Robinson@empowercherokee.org

Leading by Feeding

This initiative is brought to you by The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce graduating classes of Leadership Cherokee, Must Ministries, Never Alone, Papa's Pantry at Emcompas Ministries. It is a competition between past leadership classes. Empower Cherokee is collecting for our Executive Director, Heather Daily, and the class of 2016. The winning class gets bragging rights, but when we race to help others, everyone wins.

Items Requested

  • Non-perishable food items

  • Canned goods

  • Baby Food

  • Baby Items

  • Personal Hygiene Items

The deadline for this initiative is October 16th, but Empower Cherokee will continue to collect items beyond the initiative if there is still interest.

If you are interested in this initiative and want to know more you can contact program managers. Kelly Flanagan at Kelly.Flanagan@empowercherokee.org or Beverly Quinn at Beverly.Quinn@empowercherokee.org.
