Dear Families and Caregivers,
In an effort to maintain communication and transparency around this the COVID-19 (Corona) virus I am providing you with an update.
Empower Cherokee is close contact with DBHDD, The Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency, the Cherokee County School System, and other professionals in the health care and IDD fields where we are watching for information and recommendations. As of right now, we are operating business as usual until further notice.
As of tonight, Cherokee County Schools have closed operations for the next two weeks beginning Monday. We are assessing the situation at our organization as well as with Cherokee Area Transit to determine what our next steps will be in the coming days and weeks. If we have a chance to our current course of action we will notify our stakeholders immediately.
During this time, we have heightened our precautionary measures and everyone on staff has been retrained on infection control and what to look for with COVID-19. We will be modifying group activities, group cooking, community activities, and person to person contact during this health threat.
We already have a safety committee in place and emergency protocols we can follow. As an organization, that committee along with members of our Board of directors and key staff members make up our COVID-19 Committee. This committee is assessing this ever-changing situation and determining the best course of action for our organization.
Together the best thing we can do is be transparent, honest, and follow the recommendation of the CDC around infection control to keep the spread of this virus at a minimum.
Respectfully,
Heather Daily
Executive Director
